Ear candling, also known as thermal or thermo auricular therapy, is a relaxing therapy which involves placing a hollow lit candle gently in the ear canal. The combined effect of the heat and massage can help release toxins and clear sinuses, ears and nose.
Ear Candling has many physical and psychological benefits including:
There are different types of ear candle that we may use and all are safe when used by qualified professionals. With the Biosun Hopi Ear Candles, there is a built in 'burn out' section beyond which the candle cannot burn and a plate that fits between your ear and the outside of the candle so no residue will reach you.
During the ear candling therapy, you will first be asked a few questions to ensure that ear candling is right for you. After this you will be asked to lie on your side with your head fairly flat. The candle will be gently inserted in your ear and lit. Whilst it burns down you may hear a faint crackling sound and possibly some harmless 'popping' sounds. The therapist will either hold the candle in place or massage around your ear and face. This is repeated for the other ear. After both ears have been candled, you will receive a face and sinus massage.
This will depend on why you want ear candling treatments and how many we feel you can benefit from. Until you have had your first ear candling session with us, we cannot make any recommendations.
If you have a lot of wax build up, you can try putting a few drops of olive oil in the ear and massage behind the ear before coming for your ear candling therapy.
Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol and heavy food for 24 hours. As with all therapies involving massage, you may experience slight tiredness or mild flu-like symptoms for up to 24 hours afterwards due to the toxin release from your body. Additionally, don't immerse your ears in water for 24 hours and avoid smoking and smoky atmospheres.
You will need to tell your therapist if you suffer from any of the following:
In addition, you will not be able to have a an ear candling treatment prior to or after surgery.
